Monday, September 1, 2008 8:50 PMThis is a quick update just to let you know that I now have a new Oscar predictions blog. The blog is entitled "The Always Unpredictable Oscars," and this is what I'll be updating through most of the school years (as reviews are a bit taxing to write during a time when I work full time and go to school full time). The link has also replaced the old blog link on the sidebar, seeing as how I'm shutting that old blog down.
Monday, August 11, 2008 2:17 PMIt's just too much I tell you. We've lost both Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes in two days. That's one black brother too many in my eyes. Now Hayes is a little less of a surprise. Not only has he been fairly inactive these past couple of years, but he had a stroke last year, so chances are his suffering is over. Bernie Mac though...what happened? The guy died of pneumonia? Are you kidding me? The guy was only 50 years old with no other sickness. He was in a hospitle for crying out loud! I know you can die from this, but it rarely happens. What kind of incompetent doctors did he have? I expect an autopsy for him before the end of the week is up. I'm telling you, combined with Heath Ledger's untimely death this is one of the most depressing years I've seen when it comes to losing Hollywood legends. Paul Newman has even been told that he has only a few weeks to live, and has decided to die peacefully at home. All I can say is I pray that Morgan Freeman at least recovers. I know everyone has to die at one point, but this is just too much for one year. It's one thing to lose an inactive person. It's another thing entirely to lose an active person. Heck, Bernie Mac was just recently in "Transformers," and his TV show ended just a few years ago and is in syndication. So to Hayes I want to thank him for creating lots of great soul music for the movies as well as an iconic character mad out of paper cut outs. To Mac I want to say that I miss your show, will miss your stand up, and will miss you even more. Two kings down in one weekend. It's too much I tell you, too much. On a slightly lighter note I am uploading reviews for "Swing Vote," "Journey To The Center of the Earth," and FINALLY "The Dark Knight!" Also worth noting is that episode 4 of my podcast is up, and episode 5 will be up in a few short days.
Sunday, July 13, 2008 7:26 PMHey everyone, I'm updating. A second time. During the same month. I think this is a sign I'm getting out of my rut. Anyway, strangely enough, this is not an update to let you know that I have uploaded a new review. I haven't. Yes, I did see "Hancock," but my print review isn't ready for posting yet (spelling errors and all that). No, I'm here to let you know that I've officially started podcasting, and you can download the first couple episodes of the podcast (through various different resources) on my new Podcast page. Now, I'm not doing this podcast because I want to move away from writing. God knows that I'm more comfortable behind a keyboard then I am a microphone. Truth be told, these podcasts are probably going to be much more ancient in comparison to other podcasts on the internet. But these podcasts will be a good way for me to rant about various things that would not be worth ranting on this website (mainly because of the time it would take to write it, edit it, and then publish it). So the first two episodes (and intro) are available for download. And while you're waiting for the print review of "Hancock," the first podcast has a vocal review of the movie. Now before I end this update I do want to touch on the box office this weekend. This is something I would normally save for the podcast, but I want to comment on the poor opening weekend that Eddie Murphy's new comedy "Meet Dave" did. Basically, it did poorly. VERY poorly! It made a little over $5 million dollars, opened at number seven, and the budget is $60. Gee, can you say "flop." I was talking to a friend who predicted this movie would be a bomb on the level of "The Adventures of Pluto Nash." I disagreed, saying that while I didn't feel the movie would be a hit, it would be unthinkable for Murphy to have another bomb on that lever (that level being a $7 million dollar worldwide gross on a $100 million dollar budget film). Well, I guess I lost that bet. The only posative thing anyone can say about this is that "Meet Dave" will at least lose less money then Pluto Nash.
Thursday, July 3, 2008 10:08 PMAfter yet another month without updates I've uploaded new reviews, including reviews for "Wall-E" and "Get Smart." I also want to direct you to a new feature on this site: The Great Directors. This is one of two new features I'll be launching this month in an effort to make this site about more then just reviews. I won't promise an update next week (because I don't want to lie), but the next update should be before the month is up.
Thursday, June 5, 2008 11:23 PMOkay folks, I know the updates have been slow, but that was on my finding the time to upload the reviews. See I've been writing reviews all this time I just haven't been uploading them. So, as my way of saying sorry, I've uploaded SEVEN reviews today, with the promise of more to come next week! I won't list them all here, but Indiana Jones and Chronicles of Narnia are amoung them. See you next week (really).
Thursday, March 20, 2008 0:33 AMI think it's time for some reviews. Don't you? I've got two reviews for you today: A review for the cult classic "Blade Runner" (the final cut, not original), and a second review for some movie I just can't bear to bring any attaintion to (so seek it out yourself. Don't worry, it's not hard to find). Monday I'll try to update, but it won't be with reviews. It will be with something...different, on this site. In the mean time, enjoy!
Friday, February 29, 2008 0:30 AMWoah, it's almost been a month since I last updated. Sorry guys. School and stuff. Don't worry, I plan to up my game a little the upcoming weeks so that this site isn't left hanging. Anyway, watched the Oscars on Sunday. It was the usual stuff: Long, stretched out, and my favorite nominated song ("That's How You Know") got killed in it's live performance (why they didn't let Amy Adams sing both her songs is a mystery to me. The Academy didn't have trouble letting Beyonce sing three songs one year...despite the fact she didn't originally sing any of them). "No Country For Old Men" predictably won most of the major awards, but it was still nice to see "Michael Clayton" and "Atonement" walk away with a couple of awards. Other then that, pretty standard awards show. It's a bit late, so chances are I won't type my reactions to the awards, but overall I was happy. Let's see, what else happened since I've been gone? Oh yeah, HD-DVD officially died. Gee, didn't see THAT coming?! Anyway, I've got reviews for "Vantage Point," the Oscar nominated "Persepolis," and "One Piece The Movie 8 - The Desert Princess & the Pirates: Adventures in Alabasta." Enjoy.
Sunday, February 3, 2008 11:42 PMAnother delayed week, but thankfully it's resulted in three more movie reviews: "U2 3D," "Rambo," and "Cloverfield." Though I missed a couple of these movies during their opening weekend, I have the blessing that is known as Super Bowl Sunday. I don't watch the Super Bowl, but apparently a lot of people do, which means there were no movies that opened this weekend, an almost barren theater, but pleanty of time to catch up on films I missed. Gotta love it.
Saturday, January 26, 2008 5:50 PMHey everyone, server problems kept me from updating this week, so we now have a special Saturday update with for new reviews for "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly," "The Shining," "Full Metal Jacket," and "Babette's Feast." My Oscar reactions will be posted next week, otherwise there would simply be too much stuff to read for one day. See you then
Tuesday, January 22, 2008 11:39 PMHey everyone. I planned to upload four new reviews today, as well as my reactions to the Oscar nominations (not too pretty right now), but the bad news of the unexpected death of Heath Ledger has gotten me in a mood where complaining about the Oscars seems so trivial at the moment. I'll post my reactions either Friday or Monday. In the meantime, I want to say a few words about Heath Ledger. Heath Ledger was never my favorite actor. I first saw him (as most people did) in "A Knights Tale," a movie I enjoyed greatly, but I wasn't sure he was the next big thing. After a series of bad movies, Ledger finally got some rave reviews (and, ironically, an Oscar nomination) for "Brokeback Moutain," a movie I didn't care much for, but I could see talent in the young actor I had never seen before. Then there was "Casanova," a movie I felt was fun, and Ledger did a fine job in that too. I was late in seeing it, but when I did I also enjoyed his performance in "The Patriot." I now look forward to his next (and possibly last film) "Batman: The Dark Knight," as The Joker. I say "possibly last film" because Ledger was filming a new Terry Gilliam film, and it's uncertain at the moment whether or not Gilliam will cut Ledger's scenes, hire a new actor, or cancel the movie all together. Hey, it wouldn't be the first time a sick star will have ruined Gilliams movie.
Heath Ledger
